The Pangolin Safety Scan Half Lens is a patented diverging lens for laser projectors that increases beam divergence in the audience area to enable safer, more powerful, and more visually stunning audience scanning shows.

From the Manufacturer

Laser safety is important, and as a professional laserist, you should be careful when projecting laser beams into an audience. This is why Pangolin developed the Safety Scan Lens. Our patented Safety Scan Lenses were designed to help make your shows safer, while at the same time allowing your shows to maintain a high level of visual impact.

When audience scanning shows are performed using a raw laser beam, that beam is typically so small that the entire beam's power can enter a viewer's eye. The SafetyScan lens increases the divergence of the laser beam, but only within the audience area. Once affected by the SafetyScan lens, the beam becomes bigger — and because the beam is bigger, this effectively lowers the irradiance (beam power per unit area) that enters the pupils of audience members. Due to the inverse-square law that governs light, this means that higher actual laser power can be used, because the size of the beam is increased in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions.

The result is a show that can be more powerful, safer, and much more pleasant to view — with a softer, more immersive audience scanning experience. When the SafetyScan lens is used correctly, the laser beam is unchanged above the heads of the audience, so the full aerial and beam show effects are preserved.

The half stepped lens design features a flat bottom half and a diverging top half. This means that beams projecting toward the audience (downward) are diverged, while beams projecting above the audience (upward) are unaffected. The result is maximum safety in the audience area with no compromise to the aerial portion of the show.

Features

  • Patented half stepped lens design — diverges beams in the audience area only, leaving aerial effects fully intact
  • Increases laser beam divergence in both horizontal and vertical dimensions, lowering irradiance at the audience level
  • Allows use of higher actual laser power while maintaining safer irradiance levels for audience scanning
  • Available in six diopter strengths (-1 through -6) to match a wide range of projector beam divergence and venue distances
  • Compatible with projectors using the Kvant lens mount or custom-built mounting arrangements with three-axis adjustment
  • Can be mounted externally in front of the exit aperture or internally inside the projector for added security
  • Simple and reliable "binary" operation — the beam is either affected or it isn't, with no intermediate states
  • Divergence tables provided for lasers with M² of 1.2, 3.0, and 5.0 to assist in proper lens selection
  • Protected under US Patent numbers 8,506,087 and 8,681,828
  • Recommended use: Audience scanning laser shows, live events, concerts, festivals, nightclubs, theatrical productions

Here's What Our Customers Say:

"Working with David and the [Above AVL] team was one of the best, if not the best, experience I’ve ever had with a purveyor in my lighting career. The entire team was very attentive, they bent over backwards to work within my tight timeline, and they provided a very warm customer service experience before and after purchase. At this point, one might think I’m laying the compliments on a little thick, I am not! [Above AVL] deserves more credit than my little testimonial can possibly translate."

Just wanted to reach out and let you know I received all the packages from you guys yesterday so thank you so much again for all your help with this! You truly saved the day and definitely went above and beyond for us! I will be using you guys for all my future A/V and lighting purchases .Thanks again and have a great weekend!!

6 weeks before our big event date I was given the role of managing our conference’s stage appearance and live streaming visuals. [Above AVL] helped steer me toward a perfect beginners kit of high quality lights that helped me create an even stage wash with enough dynamic uplighting that I could transform the bland hotel conference ballroom into a dance party scene on several nights. If you’re looking for help learning stage and event lighting, put down the search for reliable sources and lean into the wealth of knowledge and positive support these people and everything they’ve created has to offer you. Like myself, you’ll be glad you did.
